Zinc Conductor (ZC) weights were developed to be installed at the point of conductor suspension to correct, in an economical fashion, the uplift condition at tangent and small angle structures in order that the design H/V can be maintained. |
ZC Weight Benefits
1. | ZC weights may be used in uplift conditions otherwise requiring more expensive dead-end or high suspension structures. |
2. | ZC weights are
nonmagnetic, thus eliminating hystresis and eddy current losses which could cause
overheating of the conductor at the point of attachment, and minimize line power loss. |
3. | ZC weights, once
installed, are maintenance free throughout the life of the line. Materials used resist the most adverse environmental conditions. |
4. | ZC weights are
small and inconspicuous providing an esthetically acceptable solution to the uplift problem. |
5. | ZC weights may be
installed at the same time as the aeolean vibration dampers, and require no special or expensive equipment. |
6. | ZC weight
installation requires no special personnel training. Installation instructions are enclosed with each shipment. |
7. | ZC weights may be installed on in-service lines. |
8. | ZC weights can be useful in minimizing the cost of upgrading existing lines. |
9. | ZC weight halves
are individually marked with the conductor diameter for which it was made by means of impressing the numerical value of the conductor diameter into each weight half. Unmachined castings are shipped without size impressions. |
